Westwood's last adopted 2000 Comprehensive Plan served as the basis for the 2019-2020 update.  Committee members worked for two years to prepare a draft Comprehensive Plan to be considered by the Planning Board.

The Steering Committee met on October 15, 2020 to review and voted to forward to the Select Board and Planning Board for final review.  A public hearing with the Planning Board opened on Tuesday, November 17th at 7:00 pm via Zoom. The hearing was opened, discussed, and ultimately continued to Tuesday, December 1st at 7:00 pm via Zoom to incorporate comments and further continued to Tuesday, December 15 at 7:00 pm via Zoom.  The Plan was adopted on December 15, 2020. 

2024 Implementation Updates

The Planning Board will conduct the 2024 implementation progress review during their routinely scheduled meetings throughout the summer months. Town staff and boards/committees will present on their progress. Annotated Implementation Action matrixes will be added as they are received by the Planning Division. The meetings will be held via Zoom. Refer to the Town calendar. The schedule is subject to change, but will be updated with any changes.

Materials, including drafts of the plan and public presentations, were available starting mid-October 2019 over a series of televised Planning Board meetings on Tuesday evenings through early January 2020.  Full Schedule

Open House Office Hours
The Committee hosted two open house office hours sessions to talk with residents about what they would like to see incorporated into the 2020 Comprehensive Plan.

The Committee received valuable input. The Committee integrated all comments received on the first drafts to return to the Planning Board with a completely updated Comprehensive Plan in late spring or early summer 2020.

Community Visioning Session
A community vision session was held on Saturday, May 18, 2019.  We received valuable input to be integrated into the updated Comprehensive Plan.  A summary of the visioning workshop is provided below along with a preliminary vision statement, preliminary goals, and strategies based on input received.

Survey
The Comprehensive Plan Steering Committee conducted a survey in spring 2019, which closed on April 17, 2019 with 811 responses.  The information gathered from the survey were reviewed by the Steering Committee members, gave direction on where to focus efforts, and used to update the Comprehensive Plan. Survey & Results

Associated Plans

The Westwood Planning Board approved the update to the Open Space and Recreation Plan (OSRP) on February 26, 2019.  The plan has been conditionally approved by Massachusetts Department of Conservation and Recreation. 

The Housing Partnership worked throughout 2019 to prepare Westwood's first Housing Production Plan which focuses on residential development and affordable housing strategies for Westwood.  A Housing Workshop was held on November 13, 2018 and a community survey was completed at the end of 2018.  The Housing Production Planwas adopted by the Planning Board on November 19, 2019.
