Sanitary Sewer Overflow (SSO) Public Awareness Notification
When a sewer discharge or overflow occurs, the Westwood Department of Public Works sends out a public advisory notification. On business days, this webpage will be updated within 2-4 hours of the notification. During weekends or holidays, this webpage will be updated on the next business day.
You can also see a list of discharge and overflow events on the MassDEP website (link below). This list is updated within 24 hours of when the public advisory notification is sent. Second Meter Readings are submitted twice a year. This submittal window is in July and October. A link named "Submit Second Meter Readings" will be available on the left side of this page when the submittal window is open. (For confirmation of submission, enter your email address at the bottom of the submission screen).

The Sewer Department, a division of the Public Works Department, provides the administration, planning, construction, and related services for the operation, maintenance, and expansion of the sanitary sewerage system. The Sewer Commission oversees the maintenance and operation of the Sewer Department. The Sewer Department is responsible for the following:
- Operation and maintenance of approximately 87 miles of gravity sewers and ten pumping stations
- Billing for 4,988 sewer customers
- Administer State Mandated T.V. and Cleaning
- Inspect the installation of sewer services and add record drawings of services to our files
- Administer repairs and upgrades to sewer pumping stations
- Administer through review of T.V. work, the repairs of sewer mains
- Review and comment on subdivision plans
- Provide customers with consultation as to the feasibility of connecting to the sewer system
- Plan for future maintenance of the sewer system and upgrades to the sewer pumping stations
FINAL SEWER BILLS NEED 24 HOURS TO PROCESS
Payment can be made online or at the Sewer Department (50 Carby Street, Westwood, Monday-Friday, 7:00am-3:00pm, closed 12-1 for lunch).
Properties with second meters must have a final meter reading and we require 24 hours’ notice for this inspection. Please schedule the inspection at 781-251-2589
