The Department of Community & Economic Development was established to integrate all of the town’s Land Use divisions into a single function group, as a means for fostering responsible economic growth and development while preserving Westwood’s unique community character. This Department now includes the divisions of Building, Planning, Health, Zoning, Conservation, Licensing and Housing. In addition to overseeing these divisions, the Director of the Community & Economic Development Department (DCED) serves as an advocate for the interests of residential and commercial property owners, and strives to project a positive, business-friendly attitude to existing and prospective businesses considering a Westwood expansion, location, or relocation.

Land Use Committee

A Land Use Committee, comprised of staff from various land use related departments, has been established as an informal forum for applicants to discuss potential development projects and to assist in the coordinated review of these projects by the various town boards and commissions. The Land Use Committee generally meets at 10:00 a.m. on the first Wednesday of each month. Applicants wishing to appear before the Land Use Committee should contact Tiana Malone at 781-320-1366 at least one week prior to the meeting they wish to attend.
