Alert: East Street will have one-lane of closure starting Saturday, April 13th and continuing through till Sunday, April 21st.  Closure will be the full 24 hours. This closure is necessary for the re-construction of the bridge.

East Street Bridge Closure UpdateThe Board of Selectmen is committed to keeping the residents of the Town of Westwood informed on various projects in Town. One of the more hotly debated projects is the redesign and replacement of the MBTA East Street Bridge. Check back for additional information as it becomes available.

Since the East Street Bridge is owned and operated by the Massachusetts Bay Transit Authority (MBTA), it will provide periodic updates on its website related to the project. Please check the MBTA website for more information. The Town will be sure to share as much information as possible on this site.

Project Update - April 2019

Beginning April 13, one-way traffic will operate along East Street in Westwood in support of the East Street Bridge Rehabilitation Project. The work of lowering the roadway will begin at 6:00 AM on Saturday, April 13 and end at 6:00 PM on Sunday, April 20.


Project Update - July 2018

Work continues with utility companies related to the necessary pole and telephone pole conversations. The new bridge is being constructed offsite and anticipated to be installed in two (2) weekends. Weekend closures will be posted in advance to detour commuter traffic.


Project Update - June 2018

Work in progress will consist of installing lagging at soldier piles, utility relocation and work to bridge deck. Low impact to the roadway and most work will be contained to the bridge deck. There will be some weekend work that will not impact late evening hours.


Project Update - May 2018

The project is progressing and the Town was recently notified that plans to close the roadway are scheduled for September. Full details on dates and detours will be provided well in advance to the public. The Town will provide support to the MBTA on distributing information on detour plans well in advance.
