Recycling Stickers Coming Soon to a Barrel Near You

The last recycling audit for the Town of Westwood, in October 2023, revealed that Westwood’s recycling contamination levels have increased significantly. The town has warned us that if residents don’t take steps to prevent more contaminants from entering recycling barrels, the town will need to pay more for recycling. If that happens, residents will likely pay more as well.

Exactly what should and shouldn’t be recycled can be confusing. For that reason, the Westwood Environmental Action Committee (WEAC), in collaboration with the Westwood Department of Public Works and with the approval of the Westwood Select Board, has designed a handy reference sticker. Beginning in late August, volunteers will begin placing these stickers on residents’ recycling barrels when they are out at the curb for pick-up. The recycling sticker will provide a simple guide for proper recycling.
