Solid Waste and Recycling Holiday Pickup Schedule Changes The past practice of a one day delay on the collection of solid waste and recycling will now only affect the following holidays: May 31, 2010 - Memorial Day, September 6, 2010 - Labor Day, November 25, 2010 - Thanksgiving. Those day’s collection and all remaining collections for that week will be delayed one day, Friday collection will be on Saturday. All other holidays collection will be on a normal Monday through Friday schedule. Televisions and Computer Disposal Effective April 1st 2006 the Town of Westwood will start picking up TV and computer (CRT) monitors. Starting July 1st, 2009 the fee will be $25 per item for this service. The fee should be paid at the Town Clerk's Office where you will then be supplied with a sticker for each item. Only then should you call Waste Management (1-800-972-4545) to schedule an appointment for pickup of these items. Each item must then be placed at curbside by 7am the day of pickup with sticker attached.
Leaves and grass clippings will be collected the weeks of April 12th, May 17th, no collection in June, July 19th, August 16th, September 20th, and October 18th, on your regular rubbish day. In addition leaves will also be collected the weeks of November 8th through December 3rd, 2010. Leaf collection is on your designated trash day and should be placed in biodegradable bags or barrels clearly marked "LEAVES" at curbside by 7am. Leaves placed in plastic bags cannot be collected - Collection consists of leaves and grass clippings only. Hazardous Waste Day will be held on Saturday, September 25, 2010 at the Westwood Public Works Highway yard (50 Carby St) from 9am - noon. .............................................................................................................. IMPORTANT INFORMATION Massachusetts Law prohibits the landfilling or incineration of leaves, yard waste, brush, and building materials accordingly this Fall. Waste Management, Westwood's current refuse contractor, is not allowed to pick up leaves, yard waste, brush, and building materials, and deliver to our Town's regular trash to electricity incinerator site in Millbury, Massachusetts. |
